Mohamed el Hosseny Tour 2010 Workshop Current Comments

Masha Loukianenko THANK YOU SO MUCH for sponsoring Mohamed El Hosseny's tour to CA!

His workshops this past weekend were absolutely AMAZING!

Mohamed is one of the most GENEROUS, INFORMATIVE, and INSPIRING instructors I have ever studied with. His passion for dance is invigorating!

Please bring him back to CA next year ~ HE IS THE BEST!!

Sincerely,
Masha

Khalilah Raqs Out of all the workshops I've taken over the years, THIS one is by far my favorite!! Thank you thank you thank you Mohamed El Hosseny for not only including so much technique to keep us on our toes (or down in the sand), but making sure to convey EMOTION through dance!!! I am tired and sore and completely happy

Lauren Haas
This was an amazing workshop. I am a huge fan of El Hosseny now. He's a hardworking & generous instructor. Great choreographies, combos & nuggets of technique wisdom throughout. Entertaining & challenging at the same time.

Yazmina Zarod hi Nourhan, Mohamed El Hosseny in one word: INCREDIBLE!!! he is vey talented, creative, excelent teacher, amazing dancer, so humble despite of his enormous talent, thank you so much for sponsoring him, currently im attending workshop in Palo Alto, CA. I came all the way from Tijuana, MEXICO!!! :D it was all worth it!!!
Sunday at 12:27pm
Terry Del G Friday night in California....Great fun...very inspiring...He's delightful! Wish I could be there the whole weekend...but the several hours of technique was great.

Shukran to Mr El hosseny and the producers and sponsers of the event

Nourhan, I just wanted to tell you how much I REALLY enjoyed the St. Louis workshop with Mohamed El Hosseny. He was very kind and encouraging, and a GREAT instructor all around.

I have had a number of "shaabi" dance workshops, but nobody was able to really put that dance into its cultural context like he did. Now I feel like I actually understand Shaabi, and can appreciate it -- and now of course I can't wait to learn more!

The Simsimaya workshop was SO much fun, and I can't wait to learn more of that. I bought the CD of the music because I liked it so much. That's such a fun dance style that I had never seen before.

I know he's sort of a "best-kept secret" as a workshop instructor, but I plan on telling everyone I know about his tour, and I am actually planning on attending the tour AGAIN, either in Chicago or Columbus Ohio -- or both, if I can swing it. I really hope it works out that he makes an American tour something of a yearly thing. Just listening to him talk about the music and the dance and the gestures was amazingly educational.

Thank you so much for producing this tour and introducing me to this amazing instructor and dancer. I actually had not heard of him, but I talked to DaVid of Scandinavia (in San Diego) about a month ago and he told me "Sign up for his class RIGHT AWAY." I am so glad I did!!

Thank you again, and again and again!!

Mohamed el-Hosseny workshops, post-Saturday

I wrote this over in LiveJournal land after the Saturday sessions of Mohamed el-Hosseny's workshops:

It's hard to put into words--and harder still to type, after a couple hours of sewing--how much this weekend of workshops with Mohamed El-Hosseny is meaning to me. It's like learning to fly and sending roots into the ground at the same time, and inhabiting this glorious floating space in the middle as a result. I'm not keeping up with everything, that's a fact. Usually that would upset me. But in this workshop, as Mohamed says, it's proof that I'm learning, that I'm getting my money's worth. He's doing a lot of handholding with little pep talks about failure being okay and dancing through being tired, and it might bother others, but honestly I appreciate it, because he's so genuine and sincere. He wants everyone to love what he loves. And fortunately I do, so everything is simpatico. I could write details of technique, but that's not the point: "we are not going to the gym, we are dancing!" He often says for emphasis "Forever!"--as in, you keep this lesson forever, because it is the way that things are done, you can build from there but this is what it comes down to. And the humor--ah! I watch a fair number of Egyptian films, new and vintage, and he so completely paints a picture of the tough skeptical baladi girl, the hard-headed saiidi man, the comic relief sidekick, the serious sad heroine, the silly conceited mother in law, all the characters that I recognize from the films, and now have some idea of how to invoke on stage. More importantly, reinforcement that I *should* try to invoke them on stage, it's what makes presenting Egyptian dance *right*.

Brain spinning. I now feel like an utter idiot for deciding to do meleya leff at the show, but it's too late to change now. There's no way I'm hanging onto the choreography that I came up with, too much new stuff in my head...
Jennifer Vogel I just got back from St Louis Workshops with Mohamed El Hosseny and all I can do is rave. What a fantastic learning experience. I drove 4 hours to St. Louis and will drive 7 to Columbus now just to attempt to absorb a little more.

Safinaz Art One more thing, as Arabic, I used to listen to the song "Ali" for years, and never felt it, for the 1st time, Mohamed el hosseny delivered the shaabi feelings, and musicality, he translated in an amzing way, all my life born and raised in arabic countries took classed with many masters and none of them explained and made me understand how toisolate my body movements as Mohamed did...
Thank you so much for sharing the art of dance with us, and encouraging each and everyone of us to learn and dance...

Hala Fauzi It was a great honor and pleasure to finally study and dance with Hosseny! His passion is contagious. I learnt so much. He gave us a great dose of energy and enthusiasm.

When Hosseny dances, the music feels richer because of the way he interprets it.

Amanda Aziyade Diana, the weekend with Mohamed El Hosseny was one of the BEST workshops I've been to!! While I enjoyed all the topics, I really felt like he put the Shaabi into the cultural perspective that I needed to truly understand it. I LOVED the Simsimaya, and I'm crazy about the music. So much fun, so many new music and dance styles to explore. Thank you SOO MUCH for having him!!

Jeanne Rosemann Like - doesn't cover how I feel! Am so filled with passion that I can't wait to let it over flow and see what happens...I hope to get the opportunity to study again with you, Hosseny....thank you, Nourhan for sharing such a visionary.

Tamsin Maxwell Thank you so much for some of the most inspiring and educational Middle Eastern dance workshops it has been my privilege and joy to attend :) It's been commented off this page that there has been a noticeable rise in the level of dance community bonding and enthusiasm in Boston since your workshops (the highest accolade of all), and I'm one of those who left feeling thoroughly inspired, both to practice new moves and to learn more about Middle Eastern culture. For anyone else considering taking these workshops, Mohamed is an extremely talented and patient teacher whose passion for awakening cultural understanding in his students and enhancing their dance ability is easily on a par with his phenomenal skill. A rare find. Thank you, Nourhan and Mohamed :)

Badriya Al-Badi'a Boston loves you, Mohamed! Thank you so much for coming and sharing your knowledge and love of the dance with us. Everybody else on the tour, you are in for such a wonderful experience!

Nepenthe Ahlam was delightfully challenged by the Hosseny El Masryworkshops
in Boston today; Also, he was a great and kind teacher, and I felt so inspired to work harder and also go home and dance! I can't wait for the show tomorrow. Thank you Za-Beth Zills and Nourhan Sharif for bringing this great instructor here.

Hi Nourhan,
I did not have room in a mere facebook post to say how much I enjoyed Mohamed's workshop. First, it was great to have the different topics, and get to hear his perspective on Egyptian dance and folklore. Secondly, his dance style is so different and fast and dynamic - it was great to be exposed to that. Thirdly, he has a really good personality for teaching, putting people at ease and putting smiles on our faces.
Thank you for bringing him to Boston - we don't get enough Egyptian teachers up here for those of us who can't travel.
